The exciting coastal city of Essaouira, famous for its beautiful Skala Fortress, the Gnaoua Music Festival, and international windsurfing competitions, can be reached in less than 3 hours drive from Marrakech. Essaouira is renowned for its kitesurfing and windsurfing since the powerful trade winds blow almost constantly onto the protected, waveless bay. Essaouira, once known as Mogador, has experienced the influence of many civilizations, including a Portuguese occupation that shaped much of its architecture. It remains, however, a small village with a great history. Morocco’s “Jewel of the Atlantic” is also a center of Argan oil production. It has become a tourist attraction due to the tree-climbing goats unique to the region, as Argan trees are the only type the goats climb. With its animated port, colorful marketplace, and history of artists seeking inspiration, Essaouira is full of life, light, and magic! We suggest exploring the port, visiting the Fortress, eating a delicious seafood lunch, and then wandering the alleys to view the hundreds of handicrafts. We will deliver you back to Marrakech in the early evening, around 17:00.
